Apple having an idea of developing its own mapping system, so it has decided to drop Google Maps in its upcoming mobile platform iOS6.
The application design is said to be similar to that of the current Google Maps application on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, but it is described as a much cleaner, faster and more reliable than Google Maps.
In recent years, Apple has been acquiring companies like Placebase, C3 Technologies and Poly9. By acquiring these companies, it could be easy for apple to create a mapping database of its own, instead of relying on Google.
The point that is to be highlighted about the Apple Map is it is a powerful 3D mode application, which is a technology that is straight from C3 Technologies, a Swedish company, bought last year by Apple Inc.
Its has also acknowledged that it has switched the iOS iphoto app, a photo sorting tool had switched from Google Map data to OpenStreet Map data since March.
Apple is scheduled to hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco from June 11 to 15. The key announcement at this year’s conference is expected to be iOS6.
